Opalescent sapphires are sapphires with natural microscopic silky rutile inclusions that scatter light unevenly, rather than allowing it to travel straight through. The result is a gemstone that possess an otherworldly appearance with multiple hues and flashes of secondary colours, often in pastel tones, which are also often seen in Opals.
